Advocates for Human Potential (AHP) is pleased to announce the 4 organizations that have been awarded funding for the initial period of performance as the Supportive Services and Treatment for Accessible Recovery – Together (START) for Pregnant and Postpartum Persons and Their Families subrecipients. A total of $6,000,000 has been approved to be distributed across 3 years by the Illinois Opioid Remediation Advisory Board (IORAB) for START services in the state of Illinois.

The purpose of the START subaward is to establish or expand comprehensive, holistic services to support pregnant and postpartum people with opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders, their families, including small children, and infants with Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS). START services will be available for up to 12 months after birth and address access to treatment and recovery support services.


The START subrecipients include the following organizations:

Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University

The SIU Center for Family Medicine is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with 16 sites across central and southern Illinois. Services will be provided in Sangamon County.

Macoupin, County of
Carlinville – The Macoupin County Public Health Department provides clinical, environmental, and other health services throughout the county.

McDermott Center

Chicago – McDermott Center, dba Haymarket Center, is a designated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look-Alike and provides comprehensive healthcare services, including treatment

for substance use and mental health disorders.

Remedies Renewing Lives

Rockford – Remedies Renewing Lives provides substance use treatment, domestic violence, mental health, and human trafficking services. Its primary focus is on Winnebago and Boone Counties.

AHP administers the Regional Care Coordination Agency (RCCA) grant as authorized by CSFA 444-26-3078. This subaward depends on the availability of funding for the Illinois Opioid Remediation State Trust Fund through the Illinois Department of Health Services (IDHS), for the express purpose herein.
